Who introduced you to your first Flame?
'93-ish? At Manhattan Transfer...all of us Paintbox peeps stood around it like the apes in "2001: A Space Odyssey."
When did you fall for your first Flame?
When I first used that damn tracker. I mean, I was a whizkid on the k-scope, but the tracker on that Flame was like magic to me. My jaw dropped.
Why did you fall in love with your Flame?
When I saw how logical the nodal-based system was in Action.
What is your proudest Flame moment?
Honestly, working on the re-release of "Star Wars." It was a scene on Hoth. I was using a spline w/motion blur (Sheena D. showed me how) to create the tow-rope that shot out of the snow speeder - tripping up the atat. I mean, "Star Wars" is what turned me onto vfx in the first place...
How did your Flame save the day?
Sooo many starlets would look just like all of us ordinary people if it were not for my Flame. My parents always wanted me to be a doctor, and with Flame I am a dermatologist, a beautician, and a plastic surgeon...aside from an vfx artist.
Favorite Flame project (my own):
I really liked the "Cremaster" film by Matthew Barny, and the title sequence for the movie "Sphere."
Favorite Flame project (by another artist):
Blank.
Were you ever unfaithful to your Flame?
Well, BEFORE Flame there was my anglophile phase with Quantel...but Paintbox DID (past tense) have a better airbrush.
What keeps you coming back for more?
Fun way to make a living.
My Flame wisdom:
There are a million ways to skin a cat.
